Meet Ziggy!
I added Ziggy to my practice in April 2025. Ziggy is a Colorado Mountain Dog that has been with our family since he was 8 weeks old. He was specifically chosen from his litter due to his therapeutic qualities and temperament.
I incorporate Ziggy into my psychotherapy work because I believe his presence can be a benefit to you as a client within the therapeutic setting. The use of animals by health professionals in their work is called animal-assisted therapy. Numerous studies that show that interacting with animals helps people lower their blood pressure, increases engagement and reduces anxiety/depression.
Ziggy and I are currently in-training with professional dog trainers. Since Ziggy is only a puppy, we will continue to be in the training process for quite some time. He needs to learn several skills to pass the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen test and then his therapy dog certification test. Ziggy has been screened by a veterinarian before commencing any work and is up to date on all of his vaccinations. He is regularly groomed and I use an air purifier/vacuum daily to maintain the space and limit allergens.
