About Me

Hi there, my name is Falon and I am an Iowa transplant. I am from Illinois but have lived in Iowa since 2007. My journey to becoming a therapist has been, like many others, non-traditional. I started my career as a human resource professional that quickly realized I wanted to serve humans more than companies. After experiencing the pandemic and significant personal changes, including a divorce, I began to explore future paths that felt right for me. That exploration led me to marriage and family therapy.

Working with couples is my passion because I think a secure-functioning relationship can change an entire family, which impacts the communities we live in and even our world. I realize how corny that sounds but then I also would ask… how did your parents function growing up? How did that relationship impact your life and your work? How is your current relationship making your life easier and more meaningful?

“I aspire to bring unyielding compassion, authenticity and often humor into every session we have. It is my honor to create a space where you feel most comfortable to glance inward and move forward.”

Outside of the therapy room, you can find me cooking elaborate meals with too many ingredients, sitting in the sun, watching college sportsball, sipping coffee and hanging out with my blended family.

Falon E. Hooks, MA, t-MFT, practices under the supervision of Dr. Phil Striegel, LMFT at the Counseling Center of Iowa City.

Great relationships with good enough people are what we seek in my therapy room. As we learn and write our owner’s manuals, we are building empathy, acceptance and tenderness for this imperfect human beside us.
